Hello to all.
I have an odd projectile found in a wall during an investigation. I'm looking to find who made or loaded it.
0.346" - 0.354"
131.9
Closed, flat base with rounded edges
Grease groove
6 Right, Poly.
Any help would be grateful.
Lawrence

It looks like Hornady Critical Duty at first glance with their locking band.

I just pulled this Hornady this morning.
Critical Duty is 115 grains. This is 131.

https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/critical-duty# (https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/critical-duty#)!/
Edit: That link may not render as I expected. In any case, look at Critical Duty more closely and you'll find it at 135 grains with that profile. You may have pulled a Critical Defense.

Thanks Jamie and Chris,
The agency found Critical Defense at the scene. (this is what I pulled)
We don't have any Critical Duty ammo here to pull, and little money for supplies...
I do know they clearly are not the same thing. I have their chart printed out on my wall.
Anybody willing to pull a round for me?

Here is an image of a 9mm Critical Duty I just pulled from our collection, let me know if you need anything else.

Hornady used to have a pdf on their site that explained the difference. In addition, the document specified that Critical Duty has red sealant around the primers and "H" on the Flex Tips.

Lawrence,
the Critical Duty is (amongst others) identified by the two "cannelures"/grooves on the bullet. We have the 135 grs bullet in the database
The Critical Defense in 9 mm Luger is a 115 grs Hornady FTX bullet.
Please see the cutaways of both bullets in 9 mm Luger from CartWinPro for reference.
Base to bottom groove (forward edge) on the Critical Duty should be ~ 0.185"
On the Critical Defense we measured 0.274"
If you need more info please send me a PM.
Greetings
Axel

Here is the address for the PDF file https://www.hornady.com/assets/site/hornady/images/ammunition/critical-defense/critical-duty-vs-critical-defense.pdf (https://www.hornady.com/assets/site/hornady/images/ammunition/critical-defense/critical-duty-vs-critical-defense.pdf)
I have it printed out hanging above my computer for quick reference.
