The West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory has posted for a Forensic Scientist 1 (Trainee) position in the Firearm/Toolmark Section. Trained examiners are also welcome to apply.

Preference will be given to applications received by August 23rd.



Position:  FORENSIC SCIENTIST 1 (Firearms Examiner)
 Location:  Troop 0 , Headquarters , So. Charleston
 Pay Grade:  $42,680 (entry)
Leave: Full-time entry level employees earn 15 days annual leave per year (1.25 days per month) and 18 days sick leave per year (1.50 days per month). Additionally, the State of West Virginia recognizes 12 to 15 paid holidays per year.

Description:  This is an entry level position which also serves as a probationary period. The FS1 includes successful training to completion in the assigned discipline of forensic science (or designated subcategories). Works under the direction of a trained analyst until authorized by the Laboratory Director or designee to work independently. Upon authorization, the FS1 will begin testing evidence, issue forensic reports at the conclusion of testing and offer expert testimony when needed.  Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:  Education: Bachelor?s degree from an accredited four year college or university with a major in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, forensic sciences, natural sciences, or related field. Discipline specific educational requirements as specified. Special Requirements:  A successful background check and polygraph examination (if not previously attained). A valid driver?s license.
