On Sunday before AFTE (May31) I'm planning to rent a bike and ride down the florida keys if anyone wants to join. I pretty sure they have rebuilt the bridge since True Lies.
If I get a lot of interest, I'll plan something more organized.

here is the shop info, 15 miles from AFTE hotel.

I would be very interested in making that ride however I am unsure if my lab will be sending me to the AFTE meeting. We are keeping our fingers crossed but with a 5.4 billion dollar budget deficit here in Wisconsin it is not looking good. I have been working here for 6 years and have never been approved for a meeting. I think a bike ride would be a great way to get to know other members.
-
No worries. I'm sure we will do the same thing in Vegas 2010.
I'm paying my own way this year cuz the Miami people talked up this meeting so much:)
-
I as well would certainly be interested. If you get a overwhelming response to this, what are the chances that Miami Harley can provide enough rentals for that day? Do you think they would make arrangements to obtain enough rental bikes? I would hate to have to trailer mine down just for the ride. ;D
-
That sounds way better than golfing - no offence.
Maybe I can bring mine with me as handluggage, wonder if US airport security would allow me into US.
Any way splendid idea.

One of the things Elke and I always wanted to do!
Our helmets are packed

Who's working on the AFTE Colors ;D

When you call the shop to reserve a bike, tell them you are with the "Geil (pronounced Guy-el) AFTE09 group". If we get enough reservations, we'll get a deal on rental.
colors are easy, smoke and gun metal grey. ;)

I too am paying my own way this year.
Count me in!!!

For all of you guys that are doing the bike thing to the Keys. Either going down or coming back, make sure to take Card Sound road instead of US-1 and stop at Alabama Jacks for probably the best Conch fritters anywhere! If you order the seafood plate for two, it is usually enough for 3 sometimes 4 people! The food is great, the beers are cold and there is plenty of Jimmy Buffet music playing in the background!!!

I haven't rode a hog in 20 years but it sounds like fun. Do you have to have a special license designation for scoots in Florida?
-
What about side cars...? I don't have a motor bike driving licence :-\
-
They are Harleys after all. We'll need someone to follow us in a truck with spare parts and tools. ::)
Renting requirements are on the shop link

The ride sounds like fun. I will be paying my way to this one also, but I would definitely be up for a ride to the Keys on Sunday so count me in!

Great idea Rick.
I don't think I'll be able to make Miami but am planning on Vegas in 2010, so I'm up for a ride one way or the other. I'm assuming that there may be more options to ride other marques other than the aforesaid agricultural machinery? But then again, Vegas is in the desert so I assume there won't be (m)any corners to have to negotiate....

Looks like I have been approved for AFTE 2009 by the state. Miracles do happen, the V-Rod muscle is mine.

Whomever is in or maybe in, send me an email.

As we are getting closer, another reminder of this ride we are doing on Sunday May 31. If you have questions, email me directly. We're making shirts!
-
Outstanding....

;D ;D ;D

In case anyone is worried that I might find the shirt inappropriate . . . I think it is funny.
Rick thought it up some time ago and told me that he wanted to make t-shirts up for the ride.

Do you think my "Honda Spree" would make it. . . . it did pretty well on Lower Wacker Drive in Chicago?!? :o

Lisa it is all I can do to respond to this in a professional way. The things I could go into with that comment!
But... I will behave. You probably would be just fine with the Honda. You more than likely would finish the ride. I suspect a few of the Harleys might not given their reputation.
Actually just jealous of all of you Harley/Spree drivers.

Oh I left that thing in Chicago years ago . . . I'd probably melt on it here in Phoenix anyway! And hey, I didn't name the streets in Chicago!!! But it certainly is NOT unusual for something unintentional to leave - awww, there's no way I can finish that thought and still remain proper! >:D

I realise it's late in the day, but is it too late to join in on this jolly? I leave the UK tomorrow morning (Saturday) arriving in Miami around 6pm. I have Sunday free (the workshops had filled by the time I got round to registering - late once more). I had bikes for years, and I'd be happy to ride pillion with someone if that's possible. If not, I'll be twiddling my thumbs on Sunday. I wish I'd looked at the forums earlier!

The AFTE Harley riders looked great!!!!
-
Some of us could not make the Harley ride for one reason or another so we put our own “Veaspa” ride through Miami beach.
Here are two of the big vespa’s who rode the Miami beach run.
-
I hope you guys had fun on the bikes.
I was going to do the same, but my AFTE trip was cancelled late Thursday afternoon. I look forward to do the same in 2010.
