Title: Unknown shotgun
Post by: Stojan Kostic on September 19, 2011, 07:02:39 AM
Dear Colleagues,

I recently got a hunting rifle for review, without any manufacturer and model label. The gun was probably of Italian origin, based on the gunproof marks. I would be very grateful if you recognize the brand and model of weapons on, unfortunately, not-so-good photos that I have provided in the appendix.

Thank you in advance,

Stojan

Hi Stojan,
Did you try to take it apart?
Sometimes there are imprints on the inner side of the barrel & wooden parts.

Stojan,

if it is Italian it may have a CAT number.
Please check and post or PM

Hi Axel, Lior

Once again, thank you for your help. Besides gunproof marks, ther is no inscription inside the gun. I couldn't find CAT numbers but I take a photo of all gunproof marks, so, I hope, it will be helpfull for you, if you are still interested for this topic.

Best regards,

Stojan

Gardone proof house (third picture, proof mark right from PSF)
XX9 on second picture -> manufactured in 1973.
But that didn't help much.

Can you tell me what gauge it is please? I will look through our reference collection. It looks oddly familar to me.
Thanks

Hello Stacey/Dalibor,

Rifle gauge is 16. Is it possible that two letters RL is firearm manufacture's initials i.e. Rota Luciano

Best regards, Stojan

Looks like Italian proofmarks to me...

They are indeed Italian proofmarks and, as others have mentioned, they are from Gardone & Brescia.  The marks also indicate it is a 70mm (2 3/4") chamber, 16.9mm bore (16 ga), manufactured in 1973, and PSF stands for "Polvere Sensa Fumo" (Smokeless powder).  While KG1,620 is either a 1.62kg barrel or a barrel that is proof tested at 1.62 kg/sq. cm (but this would be 23,000 psi which is too high for a 16ga).

The "RL" could be the factory: Rota Luciano but I'm not sure.  I hope all this rambling helps in some way...

Hi Stojan
It is hard to say, but RL mark also appears on other firearms from that region.

Possible inspector initials?
