Title: Rusty firearm project
Post by: Kim Haag on March 12, 2012, 04:24:23 PM
If anyone is in need of a project, researching the various rust removal methods would be beneficial.  Inquiring on this subject showed me that there are many ideas out there that either have not been published and/or validated on a large scale.  Feel free to contact me for further info!

Hi Kim,

I have recently undertaken some non-destructive research on corroded and fully seized firearms using x-ray analysis with Nottinghamshire Police in the UK and presented preliminary results at the Forensic Science Society Firearm Conference in June. I hope to publish these findings in due course and although not quite the same as the research you have suggested below, if you would like the conference presentation detailing the results obtained I would be happy to send you and any one else interested.

Kind regards
Dr. Rachel Bolton-King
