Title: 2016 AFTE Dates
Post by: Jeff Goudeau on June 04, 2014, 11:43:34 AM
Seeing as how a few people have already asked, I wanted to go ahead and let everyone know the dates for AFTE 2016 as we have finalized the hotel contract.  It will be 5/28/16-6/3/16 at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside.  Crawfish will still be in season  and we've already got some great things on the horizon!  See everyone in Dallas!

My department is looking for a cost breakdown for any training that we wish to attend for 2016.  Do you have any information regarding registration fees or hotel deals?  Thank you!

Are the workshops starting May 28 and May 29 with the meeting actually starting on May 30?  Also, what night is the banquet, June 2 or June 3?

Thanks!

Kirsten, the host committee would be the best place to get this info, but typically the workshops start on Sunday (May 29) and the banquet is on Thursday (June 2).

Jeff & the NOLA Host Committee,

I see that the host hotel room rate (@ $145) is over the limit for the acceptable GSA room rate of $122 for May/June 2016.

http://www.gsa.gov/portal/category/100120 (http://www.gsa.gov/portal/category/100120)

Most of our training funds here come from Federal grants.  I'm guessing this situation may apply to many others as well.  If the conference hotel can't meet the allowable GSA rate, then we are required to find alternate accommodations at another place.   :'(

Is there a decent hotel within a few blocks of the Hilton Riverside that is a bit less costly?

Thanks,

Dwight

Kirsten, I got your PM and will respond but Dans information is 100% correct.
Dwight, I'm checking into that.  Gov't Per Diem was 153 when we signed the contract and I didn't have that information.  Let me get some clarification and get back with you.

This GSA rate stuff doesn't even make sense.  Unfortunately, we are bound to it.

How is the rate $153 from Oct - Dec 2015, then even jumps up to $160 from Jan - April 2016.  But then, just as we are coming to town, it drops like a rock to $122  (from May - Sept 2016)?

Doesn't anyone visit NOLA during the summer?

Yeah and we based it on what had been the gov't per diem during May/June previous years.  I was happy that we got them a few bucks under it but now I'm not sure what to think.  I've reach out to our Helms Brisco contact and they are going to see what our options are.  I'll keep you posted!  Gonna do my best to get it resolved!

Jeff-does your hotel contract list a specific room rate or does it read "prevailing government rate"?

Specific room rate since it was below per diem at the time but there is another clause Helms Brisco is looking at.  I'll keep you posted.

The jump in rates from Jan.-Apr. is primarily due to the NCAA Sugar Bowl, Mardi Gras, French Quarter Festival and Jazz Fest.  They like to get more revenue from these events.

Looking forward to it too!  Any update on the room rate situation - or suggestions of nearby alternate lodging that would be at or below the Federal GSA cost?

We tried our best but they won't come down to Federal room rate.  If I get a chance I'll look around and see if anyone has Federal Per Diem available but less and less hotels are offering it.

I totally understand that some of you have to go where gov't per diem allows but I'm asking everyone that can stay at the Hilton to please do so.  If we don't fill the room block then we will be charged for the meeting space which is approximately $100,000.  Again, I get some people have no choice.  I'm only asking polietly if you can then please do!!!  Thanks!!!
