« Last post by Sara Baughn on June 24, 2024, 02:45:59 PM »
Are you looking to relocate? If so, we recommend the state of Oregon. There’s so much to see, learn and do in this great state! One of only three states in the lower 48 that shares a coast with the mighty Pacific Ocean, Oregon's picturesque coast is bordered by the Ocean on one side and desert and mountains on the other. The state of Oregon offers a wide variety of geographical diversity as well as a diverse, relatively mild climate. Known for our amazing coffee, craft brews, technology, timber production, fishing and green energy sources, there's a little bit of something for everyone. The program is brand-new and has yet to have its first cohort begin, I believe.  I've looked at the curriculum though, and it looks very thorough and complete.

Has anyone here attended the Virginia Commonwealth University's Forensic Firearms Identification Training program?  I am looking for feedback about the program from someone who has completed it or from someone who has had one of their firearms examiners attend.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is hiring for a Forensic Scientist in the Firearm & Toolmarks Section - apply here.
This position will remain open until July 2, 2024.

Position Summary
• Location: Olathe, KS 66061
• Full-Time, 40 hours
• Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0800 - 1630
• The position will be hired as a Forensic Scientist Trainee, Forensic Scientist, Senior Forensic Scientist, Forensic Scientist Technical Leader, or Forensic Scientist Supervisor based upon qualifications and prior experience.
• Hiring salary will be based upon experience and equity within the laboratory and is non-negotiable.

Questions regarding this job posting can be directed to:
Olathe is situated in the southwest corner of the Kansas City metropolitan area on the Kansas side.  The JCSOCL is a full-service laboratory which serves all of Johnson County, Kansas.  In 2023 alone, we served 33 different law enforcement agencies, completing over 5,000 cases.

Kansas City is home to the world-famous Kansas City Chiefs and the boys in blue (KC Royals), is slotted to host matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and is rocking an ECHL team (hockey) and an AA team (baseball) that have both recently competed in the playoffs in their respective seasons!  But that's not all - we have the world's FIRST women's professional sports stadium, opened just this year for the KC Current (NWSL).  It truly is a great time to be a Kansas City sports fan!

If sports are not your thing, Johnson County and the Kansas City metro have so much to offer in the way of dining, entertainment, and culture!  Kansas City has long been known for its barbeque, but few visitors know about our tacos!  The city also has a rich history of jazz music with some amazing spots downtown to catch live jazz over Saturday night cocktails or Sunday morning brunch.  The metro is also teaming with diversity, represented by the many festivals, restaurants, and historical sites/memorials dedicated to celebrating the many cultural communities that are the foundation of the Kansas City area.

Finally, as you know, Kansas is in the middle of the county, and it is super easy to get just about anywhere you would like to go with a brand-new airport terminal, two major interstate highway arteries, and Amtrak.  But seriously, why would you want to go anywhere else?  If you have never given Kansas City a chance, now is the time!
