Job Announcements / Join a Fantastic Team in Las Vegas!
« Last post by Roy Wilcox on July 10, 2024, 11:36:44 AM »
Hello from Sunny (and seasonably warm) Las Vegas!  We’re Hiring (due to a deeply saddening retirement).  We want YOU if any of this looks interesting:
Here at Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, we enjoy some of the best benefits offered by any department anywhere, to include:
  •       100% employer-paid medical (health/vision/dental) insurance for the employee and Extremely Reasonable rates for family coverage.
  •        No social security withholding if enrolled in Nevada’s PERS (state retirement program).
  •        No State Income Tax!
  •        4/10 Work Schedule (for example M-Th or Tue-Fri).
  •        All major holidays, PLUS 3 personal holidays per year, PLUS 3 bonus leave days (if minimal sick leave used).
  •        Nevada PERS is very generous, and employees are vested after 5 years.
  •        Compensation is VERY Competitive!  Please check out the links below for the postings and position-specific information.  Regular merit pay increases as well as COLA.
  •        Education Incentives – your BS/MS education comes with a designated pay incentive each pay period.
Plus…this is Las Vegas!  This city is known everywhere as the Entertainment Capital of the World.  There’s always something fun to do and the best bands/shows/events end up around here.

We’re also known as one of the country’s best Foodie Cities.  It’s crazy that a city in the middle of the desert has some of the best sushi on earth!  Strange, but true.

After living here for the last 8 ½ years, I’ve learned some great things about the city and this department:
  •       Lots of fun things to see and do here as well as within a short drive.  The beaches of California, with theme parks, along with the amazing fishing and camping in Utah are just a short drive away.  Also, some of the most beautiful national parks in the country are nearby:  Yosemite, Zion, Red Rock, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Arches.
  •        “Locals’ Discounts” are plentiful and amazing.
  •        Airfare to/from Las Vegas is some of the most affordable anywhere.  As a family, we’ve traveled all over the world more in the last few years than ever before.
  •        Weather, even with about 2 hot (“dry heat”) months, is Awesome!
  •        Las Vegas is a dream city for sport fans:  UFC, Formula 1, NHL (Vegas Golden Knights), NFL (Raiders), WNBA (Aces), and MLB (Athletics) is coming!  Also, there are more college sports than normal since so many bowl games and tournaments are here.
  •        LVMPD is a fantastic department to work for, and well-supported by the community.  I came here from a much larger department and the upgrade was immediately noticed.  You are known, respected, appreciated, and the positivity is palpable.
Here in the Firearms Detail of the LVMPD Forensics Lab, we have a close and cohesive group of hard working and positive scientists, and we have great management which supports us and gives us what we need.  If that kind of environment is appealing to you, let’s talk!

Hey all!!

The Unified Forensic Lab just outside of Denver, Colorado will have a vacancy for a Firearms Examiner / Firearms Unit Technical Leader at the end of July. If you’re interested and/or have questions, reach out – or 720-845-1558. I’ll post all the specifics of the job duties/qualifications once it’s officially posted by the Aurora Police Dept. but here are some highlights –

Pay range: $87K - $137K with an anticipated hire pay of approx. $109K (depending on experience)
Location: Unified Forensic Laboratory in Englewood, CO which is about 30 min southeast of downtown Denver
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree / 4 years of experience as a firearms examiner in a forensic lab
Preferred (but not required): 2 years of experience as a technical leader or supervisor

This lab is a great place to work due to the awesome people, it’s small size, relatively small backlog and flexible schedule…and who can beat living year-round near the Rocky Mountains! Come the end of July the unit set up will be one fully trained firearms examiner, one firearms examiner trainee (training almost complete) and two NIBIN technicians.

I just ran across this (new to me) headstamp in casework and didn't see it in the headstamp guide.  ATL ARMS.  A quick google search showed it is (obviously) part of the Atlanta Arms ammunition brand.
