The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences is seeking qualified applicants to serve as Forensic Scientist (Supervisor) assigned to the Firearms/Tool Mark Section, Huntsville Regional Laboratory.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in chemistry, medical technology, pharmacy, or closely related field.
2. Eight (8) courses in chemistry such as quantitative analysis, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry.
3. Four (4) years of experience working in the forensic discipline of Firearms/Tool Mark Identification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Membership in the Association of Firearms/ Tool Mark Examiners
2. AFTE Certification
3. ABC Certification
4. Experience in forensic related training
5. Supervisory experience to include experience supervising technical staff
6. Testimony experience in judicial proceedings
7. Certified IBIS Operator
*Applicant may be required to meet the requirements of the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Act (APOSTA) during a probationary period.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The qualified applicant will be responsible for the analysis, comparison and evaluation of firearms and tool mark related evidence; issuing of reports pertaining to analytical findings; testifying in courts of law; assisting law enforcement agencies. Supervision (administrative and technical) of FATM Section personnel.
GENERAL:
The laboratories of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences have been ASCLD-LAB Accredited since 2003.
