Seeking Qualified Applicants for CT Lab
« on: December 09, 2015, 04:15:44 PM »
The State of Connecticut is looking to populate a list of qualified candidates for the positions of Forensic Examiner 1, 2, and 3 at the Division of Scientific Services Forensic Laboratory.

Connecticut draws applicants for open positions from a list of qualified candidates.  The employment lists are good for 5 years.  If you are interested in working in Connecticut, I would recommend applying to get onto the employment list.  If you have successfully applied in the past to be on a list, check the expiration date, as it may be expiring soon.   Post marks for application packages for all three levels of Forensic Science Examiner are as follows:

2/9/16 for a grading date of 3/30/16

6/13/16 for a grading date of 7/28/16

10/18/16 for a grading date of 11/30/16

A separate application package must be submitted for each position desired.

Please note:  at this time, this announcement is to seek qualified applicants.  Open positions are not yet being filled.

About the laboratory…
The Division of Scientific Services (DSS) is one of six divisions under the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.  DSS is centrally located in the State of Connecticut. This forensic laboratory is nationally accredited by the American Society of Crime Lab Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) and the FBI Quality Assurance Standards (QAS).  DSS assists numerous agencies:  140 local police departments, 33 state police troops and specialized investigative units, 5 Federal agencies, and 68 fire departments and fire marshal’s offices, state’s attorneys, public defenders, and other State agencies. In addition, we serve other Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies in Connecticut, the New England area, and around the U.S.  We also provide technical support and documentation for crime scene services.  DSS employs approximately 106 examiners and support personnel.  This Laboratory receives approximately 6,000 cases yearly and 50,000 pieces of evidence.

About Connecticut…
Within its compact borders, Connecticut has forested hills, new urban skylines, shoreline beaches, white-steeple colonial churches, and historic village greens.  There are classic Ivy League schools, modern expressways, great corporate offices, and small farms.  Connecticut is a thriving center of business and a vacationland. Connecticut is New England’s second smallest and southernmost state. Connecticut has 8 counties and 169 cities/towns covering 5,000 miles. The cities with the largest population are Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford, Stamford, and Waterbury.  Connecticut has diverse cultural communities and a population of 3.5 million. Connecticut has extensive military support programs with two VA hospitals located within 20 to 30 miles from the Division of Scientific Services.  Connecticut has excellent school systems with great private and public schools.  The state is fortunate to have Yale University, Wesleyan University and the University of Connecticut within its borders.  Connecticut is considered part of the New York Tri-State area and is located approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours from New York and Boston.
