Bullet shot into other barrel
« on: January 27, 2022, 10:56:20 AM »
Does anyone remember who presented/worked the case of the fired bullet entering another firearm's barrel at AFTE one year? I think it was maybe an officer involved shooting where suspect and officer were muzzle to muzzle and the officer's bullet traveled down the suspects barrel inheriting the rifling marks of both the officer's firearm and the suspect's firearm (maybe?)

Was there an AFTE Journal published on this case? If so, can someone point me in the right direction? I tried searching and could not find it. Thanks in advance to all of you.

Hi Greg!

This has actually happened to me in casework. I'm happy to send you some images that went along with it if you'd like to see!

Emily,
Any chance you could post some of those images?
the .223/5.56 round has such little wounding potential, it actually causes negative damage.

it has been shown in laboratory tests to heal bruises, small scrapes and cuts, and in one instance, it unhurt someone's feelings.

Thank you Charles. I was pretty sure it was Denver AFTE but not 100%.

I couldn't figure out how to put these photos with text so the images names should help you figure out what you're looking at.
Key:
The pitch--jacket that took a trip from the barrel of Firearm One to the muzzle of Firearm Two
The throw--test fire bullet from Firearm One ID to bullet jacket at base
The catch--test fire bullet from Firearm Two to bullet jacket at base
