We have a position open at the Fort Worth Police Department's Crime Laboratory in Fort Worth Texas for a Firearms and Toolmark Examiner.  Preference will be given to experienced applicants.  The closing date for this announcement is August 30th.

POLICE

SALARY:   $43,056.00 to $68,890.00  Annually

LOCATION/ADDITIONAL INFO: OSB CRIME LAB DIVISION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Forensic Science, Analytical Chemistry, Biology or a related field PLUS one (1) year of professional research and practical experience working in a forensics or chemistry laboratory. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Preference given to candidates who have:
One year practical experience working in a Forensic Laboratory
Completed a documented training program as a firearms and toolmark examiner
Membership with the Association of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners
Training and Experience with NIBIN
Qualified as an expert witness in court and have experience preparing reports for law enforcement agencies
Good oral and written communication skills for lay, legal and technical audiences
Familiarity with ASCLD/LAB requirements and good knowledge of Quality Assurance/Control principles and procedures
 
MISC. REQUIREMENTS: City of Fort Worth policy on acceptable driving record required.
Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Texas drivers’ license required.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Seeking experienced firearms and toolmark examiner. Major duties include examining firearms for function; comparison of bullets and cartridge cases; serial number restoration; GSR examination of clothing associated with firearm cases; and toolmark examinations. The successful candidate should be qualified as an expert witness in courts of law in the area of firearms and toolmark examination. The department is currently assessing the need for a new facility that will deliver expanded forensic services for the City of Fort Worth.
