The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency is seeking applicants for the position of Forensic Scientist - Firearms Examiner.
Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a physical or biological science or related field; a minimum of two (2) years experience in firearms and toolmark casework; a thorough working knowledge of firearms; ammunition; toolmarks; footwear, and use of compound and comparison microscopes. The applicant should be familiar with the common software associated with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and firearms/toolmark examinations.
The successful applicant should work independently without direct supervision; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and communicate clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing. The individual will be providing expert testimony in court.
Preference will be given to individuals who possess a master’s degree, which meets the above requirements; experienced in the use of the Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS), the rules and regulations governing an ASCLD-LAB accredited forensic firearms laboratory, and has 3 or more years of experience.
Annual Salary: $70,000 - $80,000. The salary hiring point will be based on education, certification, and experience.
The individual selected for this position will be subjected to a background investigation and a drug test.
