SALARY RANGE:   

Crime Lab Scientist 1: $35,569.36 - $48,935.59 OR Crime Lab Scientist 2: $39,038.32 - $53,728.30

This position will be filled at the Crime Lab Scientist 1 or Crime Lab Scientist 2 level, depending on the training and experience of the selected candidate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Crime Lab Scientist 1, job code 90624, pay grade 15 - A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Crime Lab Scientist 2, job code 90615, pay grade 16 - A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time work experience as a firearms examiner at a level equivalent to Crime Lab Scientist 1.

NOTE: Bachelor’s degree must have included the successful completion of at least two (2) science courses.

CONDITION(S) OF EMPLOYMENT: 

It is anticipated this position will be filled at GBI’s Eastern Regional Laboratory in Augusta, Georgia. However, selected applicant MUST BE willing to accept a transfer to any one of GBI’s Regional Crime Laboratories upon the completion of one (1) year of training at the Headquarters Laboratory in Decatur, Georgia. GBI’s Regional Crime Laboratories are located in Macon, Columbus, Moultrie, Savannah, Augusta, Summerville, and Cleveland.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Crime Lab Scientist 1, job code 90624, pay grade 15 - Under immediate supervision, learns to perform laboratory examinations, scientific analyses and comparisons on physical evidence related to firearms and/or toolmarks submitted by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for investigative and legal purposes.

Crime Lab Scientist 2, job code 90615, pay grade 16 - Under general supervision, performs a wide range of routine to complex laboratory examinations, scientific analyses, and comparisons on a variety of physical evidence related to firearms and/or toolmarks submitted by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for investigative and legal purposes.
