Job Description:   This position is responsible for the receipt, evaluation, and processing of evidence submitted from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. This position is responsible for the examination and comparison of fired ammunition components, proximity determinations, test firing and function testing firearms, serial number restorations, note taking, photography, report writing, chain of custody and court testimony.
The position requires knowledge in the use of a stereoscope, comparison microscope, balances, measuring instruments, the FBI General Rifling Characteristics File, and an in depth understanding of firearms.
 
Minimum Qualifications:   A bachelors degree in a physical science (such as Chemistry, Biology, or Physics) from an accredited college or university and at least two years experience as a Forensic Scientist performing firearms examinations in a Forensic Laboratory. The applicant must have testified in a court of law as an expert witness in the area of firearms examinations.

The successful candidate must pass a background check.
The position will occasionally require lifting and carrying heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds.
 
Preferred Qualifications:   Trained and court qualified as an Expert Witness in Toolmark examinations
Experience in the use of the Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS).
Membership in the Association of Firearms and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience with a variety of computer software; word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
