Senior Forensic Practitioner - Firearms Examiner
£40,878 to £46,524 plus £3,379 location allowance

NaBIS, the National Ballistics Intelligence Service, provides comprehensive firearms-related intelligence to the law enforcement agencies of the UK. Working for the Metropolitan Police Service, you’ll help support police investigators by forensically examining firearms and ammunition and establishing potential intelligence links.

Your role will involve everything from determining the legal classification of firearms and ammunition, to test firing weapons in order to establish links with unsolved shootings using comparison microscopy. You’ll also be using IBIS 3D Trax technology, reconstructing shooting scenes and attending post mortem examinations to assist police investigators. Writing impartial statements for the Criminal Justice System and appearing as an expert witness will be key duties.   

Whether you come to us as a qualified scene-going firearms examiner with a science or engineering degree or simply with solid experience as a scene-going firearms examiner, we’ll be looking for excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well under pressure. Proactive and resourceful, you will also bring strong IT and organisational skills.
