GRC question
« on: January 14, 2010, 03:19:21 PM »
Afternoon,

I recently received a 45 caliber bullet jacket with six lands and grooves inclined to the left with approximate land impressions of 0.135” and groove impressions of 0.091”.  The FBI 2008 GRC list shows nothing within that range, and I was hoping someone might have seen this before and could help.

I appreciate any assistance in this matter,

Brian,

In carpentry, the rule is to measure twice and cut once.  I do not doubt you did the equivalent but your values come up with something between a .41 caliber and a .44 caliber bullet.

If you use 0.091" as the limp value and 0.135" as the gimp value then you get a .44 Magnum Sauer & Sohn model Western Marshall revolver in the GRC list.

If that doesn't answer your question then I suggest that you recalibrate your measuring equipment.

Good luck,
Bill
