CZ model 83 9mm Makarov
« on: November 10, 2010, 10:39:50 AM »
Hi there,

Can anyone help!
We have a 9mm Makarov bullet with polygonal 6R rifling. One possibility is that it was discharged from a CZ model 83. we are looking to source one of these or alternatively acquire test fires to compare class characteristics. In addition, does anyone know of any other weapons of this calibre and rifling, any information would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Rachel

The CZ 83 we have is in 9mm Browning=9 Kurz=.380 Auto, and does not have polygonal rifling.

You sure it just isn't poor rifling? Do you have a cartridge case?  Ferrous jacket?

CZ82 has polygonal rifling, but don't know the number of grooves.

Rachel

here is part of the CZ83 manual stating that the CZ 82 model has a polygon barrel.
See enclosed PDF
I do not know the numbers but it is a 240 mm twist.

CZ82 has 4 sided polygonal rifling and fired bullets look nearly unfired.  If it's actually 9x18 and 6 Poly, I don't know but if it's a .380, it's probably a P7K3 by HK.

Hi Rachel,

Did you consider the possibility that it was fired from a 9X19 mm poligonal barrel?
Try to shoot 9 mm Makarov from a 9X19 mm pistol, such as H&K or Jericho, and see if you get similar marks.
Talk softly and cary a big gun!

Try to shoot 9 mm Makarov from a 9X19 mm pistol, such as H&K or Jericho, and see if you get similar marks.
If you choose to try this...keep in mind that a bullet seated in a 9mm Makarov cartridge has a slightly larger bullet diameter than a bullet seated in a 380 Auto or 9mm Luger cartridge. Depending on the tolerances of the gun and ammunition you use, you may experience some problems.

What is the bullet diameter and weight of your evidence bullet?
