Issue with Conference Hotel for Friday, June 3rd
« on: February 23, 2011, 01:25:46 PM »
Due to unforeseen circumstances, hotel rooms for Friday, June 3rd, are sold out at both the conference hotel (The Drake) and the overflow hotel.  It is recommended that attendees visit www.hotels.com or www.priceline.com to find affordable lodging within a short distance of The Drake hotel.

In addition, attendees are urged to make their reservations for the other nights of the conference (Sunday - Thursday) quickly.

Two questions:

Can you let us know the name of the overflow hotel so we do not waste time trying to book a room there.

Would it be possible to work a group rate at a different hotel for Friday night instead of scattering everybody up and down Michigan Avenue?

Dan,

These are all things that are out of my control.  I believe the overflow was another Hilton property across the street from The Drake.  From what little I was able to gather from talking to Pete, it sounded (cell reception was sketchy) like getting another contract done for one night was not going to happen.

If anyone has any questions, I would suggest directing them to Pete Striupaitis.

Likely there are still some historical hotels close to the Drake at reasonable rates.  Communter trains are close by.

Too bad Jake's ex-fiance took out that place with a couple of shoulder mounted rockets. Looked like a nice place! Lively card game going on in the lobby!

FYI . . .it IS possible for Downtown hotels to be completely sold-out (yes, ALL Downtown hotels) . . .so don't wait, book now, whether it be the host hotel or any other!!!  Just know what the cancellation policies are and you should be alright to cancel or change reservations.  Also, if you have a res. and will be arriving late, I recommend that you call your hotel early to let them know you are still coming (I don't know if that will guarantee anything but it might avoid you being a "spill-over" - which also happens - then you might end up in a hotel by O'Hare or wherever is available).  I don't mean to worry anyone but I'm just sharing my (little) knowledge of the Downtown hotel biz.  If you will be looking for a super cheap hotel/motel in the area feel free to inquire about the neighborhood - you don't have to go too far (in the wrong direction) to be where you probably don't want to be.  :police:

I am cancelling a hotel reservation at the Drake from arrival May28th to Jun 3rd checking out. It was booked at the AFTE rate. If anyone needs this room, let me know. I need to cancel by Wednesday. I can try to help coordinate switching it over to someone if you let me know in time.

Hi Carolyn,
Check your email.  I'd love to stay at the Drake if I can get in, and as long as I can change the check-in to 29 May because I am not coming in until Sunday.

Thanks,
Dana
