Job Title of Open Position:  SHERIFF'S FIREARMS EXAMINER - Sheriff's Office

Annual Salary:  $38,148 to 61,476  (Salary commensurate with
experience/education.)


Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in forensic science, chemistry, toxicology, biology, microbiology, biochemistry or a field closely related to the position.  At least one year (full-time equivalent) of professional experience performing scientific laboratory analysis of physical evidence gathered in actual firearms law enforcement work.

No felony convictions

Responsibilities: Receiving, recording, retaining and disposing of firearms evidence submitted to the Crime Lab so chain of custody is maintained.  Examining and testing firearms, firearm components, ammunition, ammunition components, and tools and toolmarks.  Restoring obliterated serial numbers.  Determining ballistics speed, distance, velocity and direction of
bullets.  Operating National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) computer firearms evidence system, including report preparation on firearm evidence examinations and analyses.  Providing expert testimony on firearms evidence.  Maintaining laboratory equipment and firearm ammunition reference collection.  Providing training to law enforcement on the collection and examination of firearm and toolmark evidence.
