FORENSIC SCIENTIST (Firearms and Tool Mark Examiner) – Exam # 20880

The Forensic Scientist works for the Minneapolis Police Department Crime Lab and performs the following duties: Complex examinations and comparisons of firearms, bullets, cartridges, discharged casings and other related weapon components. Performs test-fires on all makes and calibers of weapons, enters images of fired evidence into a computerized digital imaging system, and is responsible for the management of police database records and supplements. Examines and makes case notes of physical characteristics and measurement of evidence using comparison scope and other firearms lab equipment to include chemical restoration of obliterated serial numbers.  Will testify (on all of the above) as an expert witness in criminal court trials. Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in the field of a related science (e.g. Forensic Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Criminal Justice) AND 1 year of full-time exp. conducting examinations of firearms, bullets, and related evidence as a firearms and tool mark examiner.  SALARY:  $19.07 - $31.86 per hour dependant on experience. Official City application required plus completion of 6 screening questions.
