The Columbus Police Crime Laboratory has an immediate opening for a Forensic Scientist in the Firearms Discipline. This is a great opportunity for new and experienced firearms examiners as we will be moving into a large, new laboratory in 2014. While the posting is for a Forensic Scientist I, preference will be given to applicants that are qualified firearms examiners that can be hired as a Forensic Scientist II.
Qualifications:
Forensic Scientist I qualifications: Possession of a bachelor's degree with significant coursework (21 semester or 32 quarter hours) in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or closely related physical or natural science.
Forensic Scientist II qualifications: Possession of a bachelor's degree with significant coursework (21 semester or 32 quarter hours) in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or closely related physical or natural science and three (3) years of forensic laboratory experience. A master’s degree in forensic science, chemistry, biology or closely related physical or natural science may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. A doctorate's degree in forensic science, chemistry, biology or closely related physical or natural science may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
Preference will be given to those applicants possessing additional education and experience in a forensic laboratory.
Responsibilities:
The Columbus Police Crime Laboratory, an ASCLD/LAB-International accredited laboratory, is seeking applicants for the position of Forensic Scientist – Firearms. Responsibilities include performing complex examinations and analysis of firearms and toolmark evidence following generally-accepted quality assurance procedures; preparing written reports of findings and conclusions; and presenting oral testimony in court.

Salary:
