Two positions for Physical Scientist (Firearms & Toolmark Examiner), GS-1301, will open 6 May 2024, with a closing date of 17 May 2024.  These deployable positions are with the Forensic Exploitation Department (FXD), US Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID), located on Ft. Gillem, GA. The Forensic Exploitation Department is an organization that provides full-spectrum forensic services to the Department of Defense, intelligence organizations, legal agencies, and other federal and non-federal agencies, worldwide. The job announcement number is DAHT240234278581HK and can be found on www.usajobs.gov. The salary range is $76,671 - $142,065 per year and they are permanent full-time positions. We will train the right candidates who meet the educational requirements and have minimal forensic experience.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has just posted a position for a firearms examiner.  The starting salary is listed at $59,079, but may be negotiable based on experience.  The posting closes on 5/7/24 at 11:59PM EST.


Since September of 2022, we have moved into a new state-of-the-art laboratory.  Columbia, SC is located centrally to the state, and is only a couple of hours' drive from the many beaches along the coast and from the Appalachian mountains.  Columbia is also a short drive from Charlotte, NC, Savannah, GA, and Charleston, SC (The Holy City).


The area offers many options for outdoor enthusiasts (especially fishing), as well as college and minor league sports teams.

The North Dakota Office of Attorney General is hiring a Firearm/Toolmark examiner.  This position will be filled as a Forensic Scientist I or II located at the State Crime Laboratory in Bismarck, ND.  The position will work under the direct supervision of the Firearm/Toolmark Unit Technical Leader.  Qualification for a Forensic Scientist II will depend on previous experience and salary will be commensurate with experience for a Level II examiner.  Please contact me if you have any questions about this position: jpenner@nd.gov.
