This is an advanced technical professional level position within the Crime Laboratory in the specialized field for Firearm & Tool Mark Identification. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK- Able to conduct examinations and comparisons of firearms, firearms related evidence, tool marks, shoe prints and tire track, fired ammunition residues and distance determination, shooting / trajectory reconstruction, and physical fit comparison
- Able to operate laboratory equipment in conducting tests using balances, measuring devises and mastery of the comparison and stereo microscopes
- Able to complete the report process of the analysis and communicate these results to law enforcement officers, prosecutors and officers of state and federal courts
- Able to maintain safety conditions within the laboratory using procedures in accordance with the ASCLD-LAB accreditation standards and criteria
- Able to train others within or outside of the department in this particular discipline to Detectives, Crime Scene Search, District Attorney's Office and the Public Defender's office
- Ability to provide expert testimony to forensic findings in the field of Firearm & Tool Mark Identification
- Ability to perform technical and administrative reviews on the analysis and reports from others in this discipline
REQUIREMENTS OF WORK- Advanced knowledge and experience in laboratory techniques used in evidence analysis in the Firearm & Tool Mark Identification field, Range Determination and the analysis of Firearm Residues, Serial Number Restoration along with Footwear and Tire Track Identification
- Minimum of a Bachelor's of Science Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in chemistry, biology, physics, or forensic science
CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE OF: - Advanced knowledge in the field of Firearm and Tool Mark Identification including excellent instrument and computer operational skills
- Advanced knowledge in methods used in collecting, and preservation of physical evidence and preservation of such for court
- Advanced knowledge in photographic techniques in the documentation of identifications and recording physical evidence
- Advanced knowledge in the operation of the Integrated Ballistics Identification System to including past operator experience
- Excellent problem solving skills dealing with advance technical issues and concepts
- Advanced experience in providing testimony in the field of Firearm & Tool Mark Identification
SALARY: Negotiable $56,000 to $59,000
