Firearm/Toolmark Laboratory Technical Leader
                  

The Tarrant County Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Fort Worth, TX seeks to hire a Technical Leader in the Firearm/Toolmark Laboratory, effective January 2019. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
•   Provide oversight of the technical operations of the Firearm/Toolmark laboratory, including:
o   approval and edit of all technical procedures used by the Firearm/Toolmark laboratory, and  approval and edit of all training, equipment, or section-specific quality manuals and controlled forms
o   record keeping related to statistics, equipment maintenance, repairs, calibrations, and QC
o   manage the allocated supply resources for the laboratory section
o   perform Firearm and Toolmark examinations to include analysis, evaluation, quality control, reporting, testimony, verifications, and technical reviews
o   participate in audits, assessments, or other quality processes within the laboratory
o   participate in developmental activities and continuing education as resources allow
o   successfully complete external proficiency tests as required
o   additional duties as assigned


Required Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in a natural science with seven (7) years of laboratory experience or Master's degree in a natural science with five (5) years of laboratory experience is required. Must have a current Forensic Analyst License in the Firearm/Toolmark discipline from the Texas Forensic Science Commission, or obtain an analyst or provisional license within the first five (5) months of employment.  Any individual submitting a license application after January 1, 2019 must have a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science, engineering, or forensic science from an accredited university, and must have completed a three-semester credit hour college level statistics course or complete the statistics coursework offered online through the Texas Forensic Science Commission.  Must have advanced level knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures in the field of Firearm/Toolmark examination, and direct experience as a court-qualified expert in Firearm/Toolmark examination. Candidates must be able to pass a competency examination given by the supervisor prior to hiring or within six (6) months from the date of hire.


Salary:
Hire-in salary is $65,188.50 - $71,707.48 annually (Current Pay Grade Max = $100,706.84)
If hired, candidate must provide proof of educational attainment at New Hire Processing. Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
