FORENSIC SCIENTIST-FIREARMS EXAMINER
The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency is currently accepting applications and resumes for the position of Forensic Scientist-Firearms Examiner. The successful applicant should work independently without direct supervision; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; as well as, communicate clearly and concisely, both orally, and in writing; and provide expert testimony in court. Preference will be given to individuals who possess a Master’s Degree, which meets the above requirements; experienced in the use of the Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS), and the rules and regulations governing an ASCLD-LAB accredited forensic firearms laboratory. The salary range for this position is $64,000 - $90,000. The salary hiring point will be based on education, certification, and experience. The individual selected for this position will be subjected to a background investigation and a drug test.
Minimum requirements: The individual should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a physical or biological science or related field; completed a two year training program in firearms and toolmark casework; a thorough working knowledge of firearms; ammunition; toolmarks; footwear, and use of compound and comparison microscopes. The applicant should be familiar with the common software programs associated with laboratory casework, Information Management Systems (LIMS) and firearms/toolmark examinations.
