The MIAMI-DADE POLICE DEPARTMENT (MDPD) Crime Laboratory Bureau is seeking one entry-level Firearm & Toolmark Examiner (Criminalist 1).  The Laboratory is a large state-of-the-art facility with modern equipment, NIBIN/IBIS stations, an indoor firearms range, shoot tanks, and an extensive firearms collection totaling 3000 weapons from all over the world.  We seek an individual who will meet the challenge of becoming a court qualified Firearm & Toolmark Examiner.  We seek an individual who will become an independent examiner within a team environment.   The ideal candidate will be expected to contribute to the highly regarded reputation that this laboratory has had for over 40 years.  Currently, the Laboratory has 64 personnel, which includes 10 firearm examiners.  We are in Sunny South Florida with great beaches, plenty of fishing, diving, shows, sports, cruises and many other attractions.  Applicants must meet MDPD educational requirements, and be a US citizen or US permanent resident prior to being hired.

We offer competitive pay (apx. $46,094 – $90,455).

We have the following benefits!

•   Excellent "team" work environment!
•   Merit pay raises (~5%) with additional cost of living raises (~2-4%) annually

•   Annual Longevity Bonus Check (percentage of salary that increases annually) after 15 years of service and until retirement
•   Numerous choices in Health & Dental Benefits with biannual physical examinations paid by Department.
•   State of the Art Health and Fitness facilities available to all employees, free of charge

•   Public out-of-state or federal employment may be eligible towards the Florida Retirement System (up to five years may be purchased).
•   Deferred Compensation investment program available (pretax investment)
•   Paid lunch (8 hour workdays).
•   96 hours of paid sick leave per year.
•   First 48 hours of sick leave that is not used can be converted to annual vacation days.
•   Eligible employees will be paid for 100% of unused sick leave at date of retirement
•   Two (2) weeks of paid vacation with the additional week if sick leave converted
•   Longevity vacation days accrue after 5 years and can total up to two (2) additional weeks of annual leave
