NFEA Program Manager, Special Agent Jim Yurgealitis will be attending the AFTE meeting. If you have any questions relating to the NFEA and/or Serial Number Restoration training, please visit him in the exhibitor section. Accordingly he has decided to extend the NFEA application deadline to June 30th.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), National Firearms Examiner Academy (NFEA) is now accepting applications for the 2009 - 2010 NFEA training session.  The NFEA provides training for apprentice/entry level firearm and toolmark examiners from Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.  The Academy curriculum is composed of the fundamentals of firearms & toolmark examinations and serves as a basis for the trainee, under supervision, to develop into a qualified firearm and toolmark examiner.  Visit www.atf.gov/explarson/itoolmark.htm for more information on the NFEA to include curriculum, eligibility requirements and application procedures. The application deadline for the 2009 - 2010 session of the NFEA is May 31, 2009.  This session is tentatively scheduled to run from October 2009 – September 2010 at the National Laboratory Center, Ammendale, MD. Please note that the scheduling of the class is dependent on receipt of funding for the program and the schedule may be adjusted accordingly.

Questions can be directed to Special Agent Jim Yurgealitis, NFEA Program Manager, at (240) 264-1401, Training Manager Sheila Hopkins at (240) 264-1477 or ATF Laboratory Coordinator Jodi Marsanopoli (240) 264-3850.

The NFEA can only take applicants that are US Citzens or citzens of a US territory. There are some manufacturers that the NFEA travels to and they only permit US Citzens or citzens of a US territory into their facility. Also, the NFEA has to send the students different firearms during the course and I am unable to ship the firearms outside of the US.

If you have any further questions, please feel to contact me.
