The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office has one (1) opening for an entry level Forensic Scientist within the Firearms Unit.  Please see the posting below:

Forensic Scientist - Firearms

Starting Salary:  $4,440.00/Month

Job Description: Examines and classifies firearms, ammunition, fired ammunition components, tools and the tool mark related evidence submitted by PBSO and local law enforcement officers; compares and identifies bullets, cartridge cases and other ammunition components; determines the make, model and serial number of firearms; conducts NIBIN entries and correlations with regards to cartridge casings; testifies in federal and state courts as an expert witness; conducts experimental research into specialized areas of firearm identification.  Performs all related duties as assigned.

Requirements:  Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Criminal Justice or closely related field.  This is an entry level position which will require 24 months of on the job training.  Must apply for membership and be certified by the Association of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE) within 5 years.

PREFERENCES:  Experience working in a Crime Laboratory Firearms Unit, conducting NIBIN duties, to include but not limited to NIBIN entry, correlation viewing as well as experience with Serial Number Restoration.

SPECIAL NOTE:  This is a grant funded position.
