Forensic Scientist Progression

City of Tulsa, OK

Salary Range: $3,685 - $6,556/Mo.

This position is responsible for providing basic scientific information related to the adjudication of criminal matters in courts of record and performs other related duties. This position is specific to the toxicology Section of the Forensic Laboratory.

** This position is being advertised as a progression and will be filled at the level commensurate with education and experience according to the Department needs. **

Minimum requirements:

Forensic Scientist I:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in one of the physical or biological sciences with some experience working in a forensic laboratory preferred.  Knowledge of principles of analytical procedures of chemistry, biology, toxicology or related sciences; knowledge of hazards and toxicity of chemicals; and knowledge necessary to maintain laboratory equipment.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing on scientific test results; ability to perform accurate, basic scientific analysis and calculations; and ability to understand and influence the behavior of others within the organization, customers or the public in order to achieve job objectives and cause action or understanding. 

Forensic Scientist II:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in one of the physical or biological sciences and one (1) year experience as a trained and competency certified forensic scientist in a forensic laboratory (ASCLD/LAB Accredited preferred).  Comprehensive knowledge of principles of analytical procedures of chemistry, biology, toxicology or a related science; considerable knowledge of hazards and toxicity of chemicals; and working knowledge to maintain and perform minor repair on laboratory equipment.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing on complex scientific test results; ability to perform accurate detailed scientific analyses and calculations; ability to present, explain and support the scientific procedures utilized to a jury; and the ability to understand and influence the behavior of others within the organization, customers or the public in order to achieve job objectives and cause action or understanding. 

Senior Forensic Scientist:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in one of the physical or biological sciences with three (3) hours additional coursework; and three (3) years experience as a court qualified Forensic Scientist in a forensic laboratory (ASCLD/LAB preferred).  Refer to the Forensic Scientist Progression Criterion Document for additional requirements.  Comprehensive knowledge of principles of analytical procedures of chemistry, biology, toxicology, forensics and related sciences; considerable knowledge of hazards and toxicity of chemicals; and considerable knowledge of how to maintain and perform minor repair on laboratory equipment.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; considerable ability to perform accurate detailed scientific analyses and calculations; ability to prepare written reports and present verbally on complex scientific test results; ability to present, explain and support the scientific procedures utilized to a jury; and the ability to understand and influence the behavior of others within the organization, customers or the public in order to achieve job objectives and cause action or understanding.
