Forensic Technical Manager (Firearms & Toolmarks)

City of Tulsa, OK

The City of Tulsa is one of the largest employers in Tulsa and we are looking for highly motivated individuals to fill several positions. This position functions as the forensic technical expert, managing a Tulsa Police Department Forensic laboratory section, supervising and performing testing and analysis, maintaining a quality assurance system and providing complex scientific information related to the adjudication of criminal matters in courts of record and performs other related duties. *The specific disciplines related to these open positions are Toxicology; Firearms/Toolmark and Latent Prints.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in one of the physical or biological sciences (some sub-disciplines will require a master’s degree) and four (4) years of qualified analyst experience in a forensic laboratory with ASCLD/LAB (American Society of Crime Lab Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board) laboratory experience preferred, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory position.

Comprehensive knowledge of principles of analytical procedures of chemistry, biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, toxicology, pharmacology, optics, physics, statistics or related sciences; considerable knowledge of the safe use, hazards and toxicity of chemicals; considerable knowledge of federal, state and local regulations pertaining to forensic science analysis and quality assurance standards. Ability to manage the technical details of a laboratory section and train forensic scientists in section analysis; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing on scientific tests results; considerable ability to perform accurate detailed scientific analyses and calculations; ability to present, explain and support the scientific procedures used to a jury; and the ability to understand and influence the behavior of others within the organization, customers or the public in order to achieve job objectives and cause action or understanding.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class “D” Operators License; qualified as an expert witness in the Tulsa County Court System; and must be nationally certified in the appropriate discipline or successfully obtain certification within one (1) year of hire date. Qualifying credentials include but not limited to DABFT, DABT and CIET
