The Forensic Scientist is responsible to examine, compare and evaluate a wide variety of items such as various firearms, unfired ammunition, fired components, clothing, tools and objects bearing toolmarks. Testify in courts of law as experts on examinations performed. Work with examiners, officials and law enforcement personnel during analytical examinations to support criminal investigations. Job requires some travel. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; experience as a Forensic Scientist qualified in firearm & toolmark examinations; experience testifying in court as an expert in the field; successful completion of a documented training program and/or demonstration of competency; ability to work independently, set priorities and work efficiently, keep accurate records, accurately analyze, interpret data and develop conclusions; ability to precisely explain and defend scientific results both verbally and in writing; knowledge of laboratory safety and QA/QC procedures; valid driver's license and/or other means of reliable transportation. Applicants should be prepared for oral and/or practical examinations during the interview. Preferred Qualifications: Experience using the NIBIN network; membership in and/or certification by AFTE; experience working in an accredited forensic science laboratory; and familiarity with ASCLD/LAB accreditation criteria.
