The Wisconsin Department of Justice is seeking to fill an LTE Firearms & Toolmarks Examiner position located at the Milwaukee State Crime Lab.
Pay: $26.50/hour
This position is limited to 1043 hours per year, and does not lead to permanent status as a Wisconsin state employee.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. Training and experience in firearms safety and safe gun handling principles and practices.
2. Training and experience with the rules of evidence and chain of custody.
3. Training and experience with scientific analyses; ability to examine and compare firearms, bullets, and cartridge cases; examine items for gunpowder residue; perform distance determinations;
4. Enter and search cartridge casings for matches utilizing computerized search systems (i.e. IBIS);
5. Knowledge of and/or experience with restoring obliterated numbers on firearms, vehicles, and other items of evidence.
6. Training and experience in laboratory quality assurance activities.
7. Training and experience in scientific research principles.
8. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing (e.g. oral/ written testimony, reports, exhibits)
9. Ability to present information in a professional and confident manner.
10. Ability to work well both individually and as a member of a team.
11. Ability to provide consultation to internal/external customers with regard to firearms and toolmarks.
12. Knowledge of the principles of construction and mechanical operation of firearms.
13. Prepare and use chemical reagents following generally accepted laboratory practices.
