Brief Description
 
This position is located in the Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS).  The mission of the DFS is to provide high-quality, timely, accurate, and reliable forensic science services using best practices and best available technology, focusing on unbiased science and transparency, to enhance public safety and health.

The position is responsible for performing examinations of physical evidence submitted to the Firearms Examination Unit related to firearms and tool mark identification.  Identifies, analyzes, compares, and interprets evidence in criminal investigations. The types of crimes include person crimes, such as homicides, sexual assaults, and robberies, as well as property crimes.

Qualifications

      Time in grade:  Time in grade restrictions must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression. Time-in-grade requirements are applicable. Substitution of education for experience will be allowed as defined by the X-118 Qualifications Standards. However, in order to receive credit, you must submit official proof with your application.
   Selective Placement Factor #1:   Must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in science; or higher degree and/or industry certification favorably considered.

Specialized Experience:   Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, at least five (5) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
