Firearm and Tool Mark Examiner needed in Huntsville, AL

Shearwater Systems, LLC, is an emerging specialty consulting firm focused on providing innovative strategic planning, project development, and environmental services support to commercial, government, and non-profit clients with a strong focus in the renewable energy and natural resource management sector.  We are an 8(a) Program Certified, Alaska Native Corporation, (ANC)-owned Small Disadvantaged Business.  We are a subsidiary of Three Saints Bay, LLC and owned by the Village of Old Harbor, Kodiak Island, Alaska.

Position Overview:

The NIBIN Firearm and Toolmark Examiner position is primarily to support services performing image and correlation reviews.  They should also have the ability to enter data into various formats and databases.  This position requires the ability to apply experience and judgment in selecting procedures to be followed and in searching for interpreting, selecting or coding items to be entered from a variety of document sources.  They also must possess the skill and ability to analyze, summarize, report, and share information.  Must have the ability to work as a team and have strong customer service skills.

Responsibilities:

o   Enter evidence into Integrated Ballistic Identification Systems (IBIS)

o   Perform correlation review of images acquired by partnering sites to determine the possible presence of a NIBIN Lead

o   Serve as the quality control review center for partnering sites

o   Assist in quality control for reviews performed by the NNCTC

o   Approving leads developed by the NNCTC and NIBIN Partner sites

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications:

o   Membership by the Association of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners, preferred

o   Successful completion of a documented Firearm and/or Tool Mark Examiner training program

o   Must provide documentation to establish previous court testimony, (i.e., witness feedback forms, subpoenas, case citations and/or court transcripts) to demonstrate past experience providing expert testimony as a Firearm/Toolmark Examiner in court cases


Requirements:

·         U.S. Citizen

·         Must be able to pass Agency background check

·         Graduation from an accredited college or university in a natural science, chemistry, biology, physics forensic science or a directly related field

·         Minimum of at least two years of work experience as a trained Firearm and Tool Mark Examiner with experience working in a forensic laboratory or equivalent setting.

·         Ability to work with and coordinate the efforts of local, State, and Federal law enforcement

·         Must be a self-starter; ability to work with minimal direction

·         Proficiency with MS Office Suite; Excel (ability to create and update spreadsheets and create graphs) Power Point (ability to create slides for presentations), WORD (ability to create and disseminate documents)

·         Ability to interact with all levels of management and co-workers

·         Occasional Travel may be required
