JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
The Austin, Texas Police Department is seeking a qualified applicant,  beginning October 1, 2005,  for a position in our Firearms and Tool Mark Section .Under minimal direction this position is responsible for the documentation, collection, preservation, processing and/or handling of firearm related evidence at specified crime scenes, conduct firearm and tool mark analysis, perform distance determination analysis, conduct serial number restoration analysis and perform all the duties associated with NIBIN operations.  Write comprehensive reports on work performed and testify in court as an expert witness on functions performed.

Minimum Qualifications
·   Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science, Criminal Justice, Industrial Technology, or related field.
·   Prior experience performing the duties of a Firearms Examiner is desired but not required.
·   Valid Class “C” Texas Drivers License

Salary Range
Beginning salary range is between $43,700 and $51,000 depending on experience.
