2019 Midwest Firearm Training Seminar
« on: May 13, 2019, 11:41:25 AM »
This year's Midwest Firearm Training Seminar will again be in Indianapolis, hosted by the Indiana State Police.

Save the dates of October 23 & 24.

Day 1: Examiners volunteer to present on various topics, including, but not limited to: interesting cases, new technology or methodology, changing legislation and research projects/validation studies. Presentation times can vary from 15-60 minutes.

Day 2: Machining Lecture provided by Chris Monturo in the morning. Chris has graciously offered to donate his time, so once again there will be no cost to attend either day of the seminar. There will be an option to purchase samples from Chris that relate to his lecture. You will be on your own for lunch and options will be provided. In order for this seminar to succeed we need presentations and attendees. Please consider doing both.

The final agenda and times will be solidified closer to October.

Please let me know if you would like to receive further information on the 2019 seminar or if you would like to submit a topic to present, and most importantly, please RSVP for one or both days @ shartman@isp.in.gov

Good morning,

There were some issues with the hotels around the museum, so I have reserved a block of rooms downtown for the government rate of $125/night at the Springhill Suites (601 W Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46204). The block is reserved for Tuesday through Thursday nights, but you must book by September 24. Options for booking your room(s) are below:

1.   Call the Springhill Suites Indianapolis Downtown at (866) 704-6116
2.   https://book.passkey.com/go/MidwestFirearmSafetyOct2019

Parking rates are as follow:
Hotel Self- Parking at $34 per day *subject to change*
Hotel Valet Parking at $37 per day *subject to change*
Off-site parking at White River State Park (across the street) between 500 West Washington Street (Eiteljorg Museum) and 650 West Washington Street (IMAX? Theater and Indiana State Museum)

The agenda for the seminar is coming together, but additional presentations are still needed. Below are the titles for confirmed presentations. Leeds will also be at the seminar, so make sure and check out their scope! Both days of the seminar will still be held at the State Police Museum.

Presentations for Day 1:
Current Court Challenges to Our Science
  Melted Hi-Point
Results of the 2018 3D Virtual Comparison Microscopy Error Rate Study (VCMERS)
  Maglite suppressor case study
  St. Valentine's Day Massacre
  NIBIN procedures relating to MROS
Day 2:
Morning Session: Machining Lecture ? Chris Monturo
Afternoon Session: Firearm Casting and Subclass Identification Workshop ? Melissa Oberg

As a reminder, the cost to attend is free. You are on your own for lunch. If you wish to purchase samples from Chris? Machining Lecture they will be available for $15.
RSVP is required to shartman@isp.in.gov for one or both days. Also indicated if you plan on purchasing samples from Chris.

Attached is an updated flyer.
