IBIS Gun Entry & Increased Submissions

Hi from the Reno lab. We cover 13 counties across Northern Nevada. We have 2 part time NIBIN Techs and one trainee (eventually 3 part timers). We are mandated by law to enter all crime related pistols into NIBIN. We saw a huge increase in submissions last year and it is continuing into this year as well. We made a number of changes to include a task based approach where one tech can document the evidence and test fired the firearms and another can aquire/and or correlate. We also trained one of our techs as a IBIS trainer through ATF so he can train in lab anytime. This helped cross-train some people from other sections without a backlog (i.e. Breath Alcohol) to assist with IBIS casework as well. There are some other procedural changes we made too if you are interested, hit me up! We are currently meeting the 48 hour turn-around...but our submissions may be much lower than other labs.
