.223 Remington Cartridge Case
« on: June 01, 2023, 06:26:12 AM »
Dear colleagues,

We are examining this cartridge case (see photos attached) and I would like to know, if somebody is acquainted with what kind of firearms was able to fired it.
I know that some Heckler & Koch rifles have got chambers with flute marks like that. But I'm not aware of other manufacturers providing this system.

Do you have any ideas ?

Thank you in advance,
Grégory

Other firearm companies that ream fluted chambers include CETME and Makarov model PPM
I've attached an old JFS article so of course it won't list anything made in the last 20 years.

Thanks Stacey! I have used that article for years for training, it provides a good explanation for the different purposes of fluting.

Are there any signs of the cc being a reload? If not, looks like a small list of possible FA.  :-0

Not a likely candidate for reloading being a steel case and most likely being berdan primed.

I think you are on the right track with H&K.   Also consider clones (other manufacturers (POF, PTR, etc), but ultimately an H&K design.

Thank you all for your answers and for the document attached !

You're right Chris, I also don't think that this cartridge case was reloaed.
In France, we have the FAMAS assault rifle with fluted chamber too. But It's less common to see these firearms in the hands of the kind of people who shot.
Best regards
