Question on Winchester 5.56x45mm Target headstamps
« on: December 20, 2023, 05:00:33 PM »
Hoping someone can provide some information to help answer a documentation question at my lab.

Recent boxes of Winchester Target 5.56x45mm ammunition have a headstamp that has dots between sets of lettering. The dots are pretty inconsistent in how heavy they are, with some barely showing up. So, the headstamp reads like the following:WIN ○ USA ○○ 5.56MM ○○
Do the spacer dots have any significance?
I'll take any and all information, including if you are required to document the dots in reports.
Thanks!

The "dots" indicate the module number in the SCAMP lines at Lake City AAP. SCAMP rotary loaders manufacture 12 rounds per second and they have three for 5.56 and I think one for 7.62 IIRC.
The SCAMPS laser gage every round and as soon as one die set goes out all material feed to that loader is cut off.  Lake City can manufacture 77 million rounds per day on 386 schedule.
