The application filing period for Criminalist with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department - Scientific Services Bureau opens 01/16/2024 at 0800hrs.  This is an entry-level position and incumbents may be assigned to work in the following disciplines: Toxicology (alcohol and drug, including breath instrument calibration), Controlled Substances, Firearms, Trace Evidence (hairs/fibers, footwear & tire, fire debris/ignitables, explosives, gunshot primer residue, etc.), Crime Scene Investigation, or Biology (DNA).

The LASD Crime Lab is a full-service laboratory with 273 employees serving a large metropolitan area.  It is a great place to gain broad experience.

After two years of experience (or one year with certain advanced degrees), incumbents are eligible for promotion to the significantly higher-paid Senior Criminalist position.  There are additional opportunities for further upward mobility to supervisory and management positions.  Los Angeles County offers excellent benefits, including extensive leave time, healthcare, and retirement.
