Forensic Firearm Identification can be one of the most difficult areas in forensics to obtain quality information and samples for demonstration and laboratory exercises.

Precision Forensic Testing has designed and Forensic Firearm Identification Educational Kit to assist high school and college teachers in the presentation of the topic of Firearms ID.

The kit includes 10 fired bullets, 10 fired cartridge cases, a firearm barrel cut in half to reveal the lands/grooves, a Power Point presentation packed with quality photographs to help lecture on the varous marks and what causes them, a Power Point presentation to assist in demonstrating the lab, a set of stainless steel calipers, and three laboratory exercises with teacher notes.

Precision Forensic Testing has added a Serial Number Restoration kit to the line-up. Serial Number Restoration is an essential laboratory function in theft cases. The kit includes a detailed Power Point of the procedure, theory, and history of SN restoration. All the supplies are included with the exception of a few chemicals. These can be purchased separately from any scientific supply company. The product numbers are provided for easy ordering.

We are currently putting the final touches on an Advanced Firearm ID course. This course will look in depth at gun powder, gun shot residue, and shot gun ammunition. Once again, there will be a detailed Power Point lecture, Power Point Lab, and 4 hands-on lab exercises. These exercises use the same chemical tests we use in the crime lab. Also included is a computer database program for the examination of Shotshell wads.

Keeping in the tradition of our current kits, we use real world samples that are the same as evidence received in crime labs. The labs will use measuring, weighing, calculating, and chemical analysis of evidence. The kits will serve well over 30 students and are 100% reusable. These kits will only be available to those who have ordered the orginal Firearm ID kit due to the background necessary to understand some of the concepts and the calipers from the first kit are used for measuring.

The Advanced Firearm ID Kit will be available in September.
