2 ideas:

1-practical photography; as I started out, it seemed to me I kind of learned on the job how to take good quality images of firearms, microscope images, etc. and a little prep. would have gone a long way.

2-scary topics (defense experts, Daubert/evidentiary hearings, PT errors, etc.).  This stuff can seem very intimidating at first and often enough the fear is far worse than the reality.  We all work in a larger system and it helps to have a sense of perspective going into some of these non-routine experiences.

I believe a lot of this would be covered by the Best practices for capturing microscopic images on your comparison microscope workshop on Tuesday. It wouldn't cover the photos of firearms though.

Maybe a version of our Past, Present, and Future (AFTE Training Manual Section B)?

I will have two new trainees attending with me this year.  It is always a challenge when training new examiners to present the history of Balthhazard, Gunther and Gunther and even Burrard since it was quite a long time ago.

Several years ago, I sat in on Ron Nichols' workshop on contemporary issues in FA-ID.   But even since then things have changed alot (that was pre-PCAST).  Now we have newish 3D scanning technologies that will revolutionize what we do.

The Future?   Maybe we end up moving more towards and Evidence Centric Based Reporting/Testimony vs Conclusion Centric Reporting/Testimony.  This may certainly be in the future of a new examiner entering the profession.
