NOTE:  This position is being announced at the Criminal Investigator I and Criminal Investigator II levels because of the limited number of applicants expected to meet the full qualifications of bachelor’s degree and two full years of professional firearms examiners experience.  The level at which the position will be filled shall be based on the number of qualified applicants received at each class level for example:  After a review of the applications, qualified applicants at each class level shall be identified.  The eligible list for the position shall include all applicants who successfully complete all examination/selection requirements at the class level for which that applicant is qualified either Criminal Investigator I or Criminal Investigator II.

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR II - A2A3XX

POSITION:      10339

SALARY RANGE:   CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR I  - $4467 - $6349
CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR II - $5426 - $7718

LOCATION:                     COLORADO BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION     
         Grand Junction, CO (New lab will be completed 4/08)
                          
DUTIES:  The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is seeking a Firearm/Tool Mark Examiner in the Forensic Laboratory.  This is a sworn position within the Colorado Bureau of Investigation Pueblo Regional Laboratory.  This person will be responsible for comparing and evaluating a wide variety of items such as firearms, unfired ammunition, fired bullets and casings, clothing, tools, and objects bearing tool marks.  The person will also be responsible for shell casing/bullet entry into the NIBIN database.  This person may also be responsible for crime scene response, as well as other duties as assigned.  The candidate will eventually provide court testimony as a firearms and tool mark expert.

REQUIREMENTS:
Criminal Investigator I:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminalistics, chemistry, biology, physics or a field related to the work assignment and ONE YEAR of forensic laboratory experience in firearms and tool mark experience using techniques specifically followed in forensic laboratories. 

Criminal Investigator II:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminalistics, chemistry, biology, physics or a field related to the work assignment and TWO YEARS of forensic laboratory experience in firearms and tool mark experience using techniques followed in forensic laboratories.

SUBSTITUTIONS:   Applicant’s work experience in forensic laboratory firearms and tool mark comparison which provided the same kind, amount and level of knowledge acquired in the required education may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

NOTE:  If the position is entitled to overtime pay, the applicant must be willing to accept compensatory time in lieu of overtime pay.
