Duties: Examines, test-fires and identifies firearms; examines cartridges, bullets, casings, and similar evidence in criminal investigations; testifies in court concerning the results of examinations; provides expert testimony on general firearms capability and examination methodology.  Enters and correlates IBIS entries.  Develops and implements new methods of analysis; prepares detailed reports of analysis. Qualifies as an expert and accordingly testifies as a witness in federal and state courts regarding analyses, methods and procedures followed. Maintains records and documents. Trains police personnel in evidence collection and preservation.  May train new or less experienced forensic chemists or other laboratory personnel in analysis and crime scene investigation.  Should be proficient in the operation of analytical balances and polarized light microscopes. May instruct and advise federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on collection and preservation of physical evidence. Performs chemical and physical examination and analysis of evidence by employing forensic, chemical, techniques, both quantitative and qualitative, associated with trace evidence, and firearms.
Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree, from accredited four-year college or university, in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or physics.  Two years forensic experience required.  Must possess a valid Texas driver license. 
Target Hiring Range:  $1,770 - $2,000 bi-weekly
