FORENSIC SCIENTIST – Firearms Examiner

The Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center, a full service ASCLD/LAB accredited laboratory, is seeking a Forensic Scientist for its Firearms/Toolmark Unit.  This is a technical and advanced professional level position, which involves the application of various analytical techniques and/or the utilization of specialized equipment and instruments.

Duties include, but not limited to:  Examination, test-firing and identification of firearms; examination of cartridges, bullets and similar evidence in criminal investigations and enters and correlates NIBIN entries.  Qualify as an expert witness and testify regarding the scientific conclusions obtained from analyses.

Requirements include:  minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in a chemical/physical science or forensic science from an accredited four year college or university; completion of a training program compatible with AFTE training guidelines and/or previously qualified as an expert in the field of firearms examination; posses a minimum of two years of experience in firearms casework or qualification as a NIBIN technician and one year experience in firearms casework; familiarity with ASCLD/LAB and AFTE policies.  Membership in AFTE is desirable.

The salary range is $40,896 to  $69,052, with eligibility for annual performance-based salary adjustments [consistent with SG County Policy].  Starting salary is based upon education, training and experience.
