SHERIFF'S FIREARMS EXAMINER - Sheriff's Office (4SHRF745caw025)

Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Firearms Examiner.  Join our highly trained team in one of Minnesota's premier forensic organizations. Work in a state of the art building that offers up-to-date equipment, large work areas, DNA testing lab and other enhancements.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in forensic science, chemistry, toxicology, biology, microbiology, biochemistry or a field closely related to the position
- At least one year (full-time equivalent) of professional experience performing scientific laboratory analysis of physical evidence gathered in actual firearms law enforcement work
- No felony convictions

Responsibilities:
Receiving, recording, retaining and disposing of firearms evidence submitted to the Crime Lab so chain of custody is maintained; Examining and testing firearms, firearm components, ammunition, ammunition components, and tools and tool marks; Restoring obliterated serial numbers; Determining ballistics speed, distance, velocity and direction of bullets; Operating National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) computer firearms evidence system, including report preparation on firearm evidence examinations and analyzes; Providing expert testimony on firearms evidence; Maintaining laboratory equipment and firearm ammunition reference collection; Providing training to law enforcement on the collection and examination of firearm and tool mark evidence.
