MPD Headstamp
« on: August 02, 2010, 04:32:45 PM »
I came across this headstamp while working a case (for the headstamp guide):

MPD (manufactured for Memphis P.D. by Starline Brass (CA))

Starline Brass Contact Info:
(p) 660-827-6640

This headstamp and info is in CartWinPro.  As a side note, I contacted the folks at Starline to confirm the headstamp and they were very helpful and prompt!

Thanks for submitting the headstamp Amy.  The headstamp has been added to the AFTE Headstamp Guide at the link below.

IIRC, Starline would stamp any headstamp you wanted: the minimum may have been as few as 5000 cartridge cases.

Their own line appeared as a star—a line—followed by another star on the headstamp. As follows:  *—*

I thought of producing a bunch of "38 KENNINGTON" cartridge cases, but due to the excess in letters, potential forensic identifications would suffer. :(

By selecting a rare caliber for the cartridge case, someone like Shem or Hart has a good shot at several minutes of fame at the AFTE Headstamp Guide!  :D

Bob,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I was trying to come up with a name for my 500 S&W necked down to .17.  Muzzle velocity is prety good, but I'm trying to extend barrel life beyond one round.
If you, I and Shem collaborate on a cartridge, do we call it the "3Bob?"

The rest of the story is this headstamp dates back to the late 1980's. The cases were loaded by Zero Bullet Co., in Alabama for Memphis Police Department. Information from CENTERFIRE HEADSTAMP GUIDE CD Rom. George Kass

I'm thinking it can be called the "HartKennShem Bob" or HKSB as the headstamp.

I'd love to have a 20 gauge headstamp that says "DED DUK".  I'd shoot those just to leave the empty shells all over the marsh.

How about "Several Old Bobs" or "SOBs"?

 :o AWWW-RIGHT!  ;)

But just had a thought: suppose that appeared as fired brass on a crime scene.

:police: Authorities would know who did the shooting! ???

Bob, that wouldn't necessarily point the authorities in the right direction.

However, if the headstamp was the acronym for Bob Is The Criminal Here, that would be a different story.  (Sorry, I am resisting the urge to post the actual headstamp here.)  It would still be misleading to authorities, tho).    ???

By the way...IT's FRIDAY!!!!!!!
