Technical Assistance / Distance Determination
« Last post by lmragaza on November 04, 2024, 11:33:48 AM »
Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your help! I do not do distance determination where I work, but teach a course where we do it as a lab exercise. We are having issues making up the paper for the modified griess test. Do you have any tips for the type of paper that should be used and the process for treating the paper? The lab TAs have tried several different things, but nothing is working well. If you have any SOPs or methods you can share, that would be great. Thanks again!

Public Forums / Re: 3D printed frame with Serial Number Laser Defacement
« Last post by Justine Kreso on November 01, 2024, 07:00:32 AM »
It is pretty common to use a slide and barrel from a "legit" gun manufacturer on a PMF (kit or 3D printed).  We put the make and number on the slide and barrel of a firearm in our reports with these cases so our customer has as much information as possible.

Looks like a different pattern, but same idea as these.

« Last post by Adam Ceron on October 31, 2024, 02:00:50 PM »
I received a 3D-printed frame with a Taurus G2C slide and barrel. The serial number appeared to be defaced by a laser with the same pattern on both the slide and barrel. Possibly sold via a third party?? The use of the same slide and barrel on a different frame could potentially cause issues in NIBIN.
