Reposted the reposting due to AFTE Forum issues... The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has just posted a position for a firearms examiner. The starting salary is listed at $59,079, but may be negotiable based on experience. The posting closes on 8/14/24 at 11:59PM EST. Since September of 2022, we have moved into a new state-of-the-art laboratory. Columbia, SC is located centrally to the state, and is only a couple of hours' drive from the many beaches along the coast and from the Appalachian mountains. Columbia is also a short drive from Charlotte, NC, Savannah, GA, and Charleston, SC (The Holy City). The area offers many options for outdoor enthusiasts (especially fishing), as well as college and minor league sports teams. REPOSTING DUE TO AFTE FORUM TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES: We have a vacancy in San Antonio, Texas for a Forensic Scientist level II specifically in the Firearms/Toolmarks Section. The position requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in a scientific discipline. Criminal Justice degrees without an accompanying Science degree are unacceptable. The position also requires (3) semester credit hours (or equivalent) in college-level statistics course or a program approved by the Texas Forensic Science Commission or be able to obtain the required credit hours within one (1) year of hire. Note: Sixteen (16) semester credit hours (or equivalent) in college level chemistry coursework above general coursework from an accredited university is NOT required for the Firearms discipline. This vacancy is specifically for those with 1 or more years of forensic laboratory experience in Firearms/Toolmarks. This includes individuals with Firearms Technician experience, NIBIN Techs, or Correlation experience. Our agency, however, does not utilize NIBIN. Two positions for Physical Scientist (Firearms & Toolmark Examiner), GS-1301, opened 30 July 2024, with a closing date of 13 August 2024. These deployable positions are with the Forensic Exploitation Department (FXD), US Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID), located on Ft. Gillem, GA. The Forensic Exploitation Department is an organization that provides full-spectrum forensic services to the Department of Defense, intelligence organizations, legal agencies, and other federal and non-federal agencies, worldwide. The job announcement number is DAHT240234274968HKR and can be found on www.usajobs.gov. The salary range is $76,671 - $142,065 per year and they are permanent full-time positions. We will train the right candidates who meet the educational requirements and have minimal forensic experience.Some additional information on the positions. Generally, the deployment schedule is 18 months at homestation, 6 months deployed. While deployed, you’ll be at a full-service forensic laboratory, and can have a significant increase in pay over the numbers above. While at homestation in Forest Park, GA, you’ll work at the full-service forensic laboratory there, attend training, participate in training and engagements with partner nations around the world, and work on various other tasks within the firearms discipline.
